Dear NCRSP Leaders,
On the order of the State Treasurer, the State Health Plan is conducting an “audit” to verify the eligibility of dependents covered by the plan, and the effort is styled as a method of reducing fraud, waste and abuse. Regardless of what you might think of that, THIS message is a friendly reminder that virtually all insureds who have dependents on the SHP have until July 31 to comply with the audit requirements or risk losing coverage.
The official state message appears below. Officers and leaders please share this information with your members as soon and as widely as possible. No one wants their dependents to lose coverage!
“Protect Your Dependents’ Health Plan Coverage – Dependent Eligibility Verification Deadline July 31! (All Members)
As a reminder, the State Health Plan is conducting a Dependent Eligibility Verification Audit of all members to protect plan benefits and reduce waste, fraud and abuse.
Allowing ineligible dependents to participate in the Plan increases the overall cost of our Plan to members and taxpayers. Every dollar going to those who are ineligible is a dollar out of the Plan’s pocket. This audit impacts all dependents under age 75 covered by the Plan as of April 19, 2017.
You should have already received a letter in the mail with a request for documentation of your dependents, which will need to be provided by July 31, 2017. Don’t wait until the last minute to submit your documents!”
