Retire/Rehire & Membership Eligibility

If you are going to return to work in a public education organization (i.e., "rehire"), and if the terms of that work obligate you to the school to work for more than 30 days or 240 hours during an NCAE membership year (September 1 - August 31), you are not eligible for Retired membership, and consequently cannot hold membership in NCRSPThe work obligation may be based on either a written or oral agreement.  If you are already an NCRSP member, then you must transfer your membership back to Active status in NCAE.

If you rehire, but are not under an obligation to work for more than 30 days or 240 hours, then you are eligible for NCRSP membership.  Further, you are eligible for coverage under NEA's liability policy - you should call NEA Member Benefits for information about how to activate that coverage, as it is not automatic for Retired members.
