Community Service Committee Policy Rules

2. Community Service Committee

Purpose: To energize the local units by encouraging all NCRSP members to volunteer in their schools and communities to address current needs and to cooperate with other organizations in the community on issues of common concern.

Composition: The committee will be composed of a representative selected by each Region subject to the approval of the President.

Responsibilities of the Committee:

a. Encourage Local units to identify critical needs in the schools.

b. Encourage Local Units to develop coalitions with other organizations in their communities.

c. Gather ideas for projects done by Locals thus creating a list to share across the state.

d. Encourage Locals, Regions and individuals to undertake service projects.

e. Collect the Local Forms, collate the total hours for the Region, indicate the one member in the Region with the most hours and submit to the State Chair.

f. Organize and staff the annual fundraising event at the State Convention to raise money for the North Carolina Foundation for Public School Children.

g. Recognize at Local Meetings, Regional Meetings and State Convention the successes of Community Participation.

Responsibilities of the Local Committee:

h. Collect member volunteer hours, collate them and indicate the one member of the Local with the most hours. Submit the Local Forms and Top Volunteer Form to the Region Chair.

i. Local Chair should attend the Region Executive Committee Meetings.

Responsibilities of the State Chair:

j. Prepare forms for reporting volunteer hours to be used at all levels as needed.

k. Receive reports from the Region Committee and prepare an Annual Volunteer Summary Report for referral to the Recognitions Committee.

l. Collaborate with Membership, Legislative, and Communications Committees as needed.

m. Submit a column on community service ideas and strategies for publications in the Panorama and/or website.

n. Call meetings of the Committees which may be in person, by conference call or virtual.

o. Represent the Committee on the NCRSP Executive Board

p. Attend other meetings as requested.

q. Submit a report to the President quarterly. The report should outline the pertinent activities of the Committee during the period.
